精析 P394
Every time you are online, you may find pictures, articles, links and videos trying to tell their stories. __1__ Some news spread quickly, and the result is fake news.
Experts in media studies and online psychology have been examining the fake news phenomenon. __2__
Check the source. Look at the website where the story comes from. A fake news website may use an address that sounds like a real newspaper, but does not have many real stories about its topics.
__3__ Many fake news stories use images from unrelated sites. Sometimes, if you just look closely at an image, you can see it has been changed. Or use a search tool to see if the same image has been used in other contexts.
Check the story in other places. Try to see if the story you are reading is on the news sites that you know and trust. __4__
Look for other signs. There are other techniques that fake news uses. For example, lots of ads pop up when you click on a link. __5__ If the news story makes you angry, it is probably designed to make you angry.
If you know these things about online news and can apply them in your everyday life, then you have controlled over what to read, what to believe and what to share.
A. Watch out for fake photos.
B. Unfortunately, not all of these stories are true.

Breathe deeply. When you are in anger, before reacting, just sit quietly, close your eyes and start breathing deeply, __3__ Eventually, you will forget the reason for your anger.
Just smile. No matter how tough the situation is, smile! __4__ Rather than thinking negatively, you should stay positive.
__5__ You can watch your favorite movie or sports match. You can also take a walk or listen to music. The purpose is to take your focus away from the situation that made you angry.

Do you often feel tired in the morning even though you’ve been in bed for seven or eight hours the night before? Like many people, you are not sleeping as much as you think you are. __1__ There is no specific number for efficiency that’s been proven as linked to poor health. However, according to a New York Times report about sleep quality, some experts estimate a rough number of 83 percent or above as a decent place to be:
__2__
Avoid blue light at night. Short wavelength blue light, sent out by the sun and by the screens of computers, in pods and smart-phones, makes you feel more alert. Blue light tells your brain it’s daytime. __3__ You can also try installing apps that can filter blue light on your devices.
__4__ Go to bed and wake up at relatively the same time. Consistency is key to a good night’s sleep, especially when it comes to waking up. When you have a regular wake-up time, your brain gets used to this and moves through the sleep cycle in preparation for you to feel rested and alert at your wake-up time. Roughly an hour before you wake, hormone levels increase gradually, causing you to become more alert.
Take naps. One of the biggest peaks in melatonin production happens during the 1 to 3 pm time frame. __5__ If you aren’t getting enough sleep at night, you’re likely to feel an overwhelming desire to sleep in the afternoon. When this happens, you’re better off taking a short nap than resorting to caffeine or strong tea to keep you awake. A short nap will give you the rest you need to get through the rest of the afternoon, and you’ll sleep much better in the evening than if you take a long afternoon nap.
A. Keep a consistent sleep schedule.
B. “Sleep efficiency” is the percentage of time you actually sleep.
C. It explains why most people feel sleepy in the afternoon.
D. Here are some tips for improving sleep efficiency.

This year the world’s population ticked over to 7 billion. __1__ They forecast dramatic changes unless significant steps are taken to control population growth. Here are some challenges a population of 7 billion must confront.
Water is probably going to be the first real threat that we bump into. Access to fresh water becomes incredibly difficult. We’re seeing the impacts of overuse of water resources and that sort of pressure mounts. __2__
What we’re putting into the atmosphere is going to lead to changes that haven’t been seen in millions of years. As the whole world warms up, a lot of places become very unpleasant to live in. __3__ We have to find less polluting sources of energy and be much more careful in the way that we make use of the remaining non-renewable fuels we’ve got. If we continue to tap the resources to meet the immediate economic demands, the supplies will run out in time. We still can’t imagine that one day we have to run the world from renewable energy resources.
__4__ We’ve got some major health problems with the medical services to actually attack the diseases of old age. But the real problem is that the world population is growing fastest in the developing countries. How can we cope with a double of the population when they’re already dirt poor and only just getting enough to live on? __5__ Is it all doom and gloom as the experts suggest, or do we have a brighter future?
A. Experts have painted a depressing future for life on Earth.
B. All countries in the world will face the challenge of population ageing.
C. Agriculture, a main consumer of water, may have to change its whole structure.

Facing the interview might make you apprehensive, but there is no reason to fear it. __1__ Take the time to prepare properly. The interview has been your goal thus far in the job search, so it is your stepping stone to future success.
Always be positive. __2__A? Don’t worry about where you have been, worry about where you are going. Make sure your accomplishments are related to your capabilities.
Listen and stay focused. Throughout the interview, concentrate to be sure you’re listening to what the interviewer has to say. It looks very bad when you ask a question the interviewer just answered. __3__A? Don’t get off on the matters that have nothing to do with the job or your qualifications.
Ask questions. Be sure to ask intelligent, well-thought-out questions that indicate you are trying to find out what you can do for the company. Base any statement on proven experience not dreams and hopes.
Don’t get personal. Keep personal issues out of the interview. __4__ If you feel the urge to bare your soul, your feelings should tell you the interviewer is very skilled in creating a casual atmosphere. Plan some answers to obvious questions. Why did you leave your precious position? Why did you choose your major? What are your training and experience going to do for the company?
When the interview concludes, don’t linger, but don’t run out the door, either. __5__ Remember to write a brief thank-you note to the people who interviewed you.
